This terms of “Swine Flu” refers to influenza in pigs. Sometimes pigs transmit influenza viruses to humans, especially to pig farmers and veterinarians. Little stares to convey a person infected with swine flu infection to others.
The respiratory infection caused by the H1N1 strain of the influenza virus – popularly known as swine flu – was identified in the spring of 2009. A few months after the first cases of swine flu were reported, the rates of confirmed H1N1 infection have increased in most parts of the world. As a result, the World Health Organization declared that infection was a global epidemic.
The pandemic was announced in August 2010. Currently, the H1N1 virus is still prevalent in humans as a seasonal influenza virus, and protection against this strain has been included in the seasonal influenza vaccine for 2015-16. Another H3N2 strain appeared in humans in 2011.
